Torrell Homes

Project

Harder

This fully remodeled, 1950s craftsman-style house in Royal Oak was badly in need of updates. But it had good bones worth preserving. We began with stripping the house down to its studs, then installed brand new plumbing, electrical, and heating systems that align with today’s standards.

Three-quarters of a century after the house was built, expectations for function and layout have changed a lot. We restructured the home to maximize its existing square footage. In the main living area, we removed load bearing walls and installed flush beams in their place. That allows for an open floor plan and one great room in place of a separate living room, dining room, and kitchen. Torrell Homes also restructured the sizeable basement into a fully functional, independent suite suitable for overnight guests or long-term tenants.

Building for Tomorrow

A custom home gives you a fresh start. Major maintenance issues are put off for years to come, while today’s styles and standards deliver a timeless look and minimize energy use.

West coast homes are known for durability as well as the subtle elegance of open spaces framed by natural materials. But Torrell Homes can work in any style. And we love facing challenges that push us to turn your form-or-function problem into a seemingly inevitable solution.
