This fully remodeled, 1950s craftsman-style house in Royal Oak was badly in need of updates. But it had good bones worth preserving. We began with stripping the house down to its studs, then installed brand new plumbing, electrical, and heating systems that align with today’s standards.
Three-quarters of a century after the house was built, expectations for function and layout have changed a lot. We restructured the home to maximize its existing square footage. In the main living area, we removed load bearing walls and installed flush beams in their place. That allows for an open floor plan and one great room in place of a separate living room, dining room, and kitchen. Torrell Homes also restructured the sizeable basement into a fully functional, independent suite suitable for overnight guests or long-term tenants.
